Episode 74: Paralegal Inspiration Episode – An Interview with Heidi Semkovich

In this month’s interview in our paralegal inspiration episode series of #RockstarParalegals who truly enjoy what they do, I talked with Heidi Semkovich. Heidi is a paralegal in Alberta, Canada. She has worked in Oil & Gas, Criminal Defense, Regulatory, and most recently in labor and employment law.

Heidi is the President of the Alberta Association of Paralegal Professionals.

In 2020, Heidi obtained her Legal Coaching certification and now assists self-represented litigants with document review, preparation, and providing information on our court system. 

In January 2023, after a lengthy career working in law firms, Heidi started her own practice as an independent paralegal.

Heidi discusses her insights and tips for paralegals in areas such as:

Heidi graduated from Grant MacEwan (now MacEwan) in 1997 and started her career as a legal assistant in Edmonton, Alberta.  In 2015 she graduated with a diploma in Paralegal Studies from Capilano University in B.C. 

Heidi has served as President of AAPP (Alberta Association of Paralegal Professionals) since October 2017.

During her 25+ year career, Heidi has worked in several areas of law, including Oil & Gas, Insurance Defence, Criminal, Regulatory, and Litigation.  She spent the last seven and a half years specializing in labor & employment and human rights law.

In 2020, Heidi obtained her Legal Coaching certification and now assists self-represented litigants with document review, preparation, and providing information on our court system in her own practice as an independent paralegal and business owner.

Heidi does not provide legal advice, what she believes to be in your best interests or the likelihood of success of your matter.  She provides information on legal processes, assists with completing forms, reviews documents to ensure they comply with filing requirements, and provides legal coaching.  

Heidi is blessed to have an amazing husband, one daughter, and two fur babies.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, baking, reading, and watching movies.
