Show Summary

How often do you ever focus on your career security?

What is career security?

It’s when you’re consistently doing things that move your career forward, and that will provide security for you, regardless of what happens to your current job. You’re adding value to your career so that if you got fired tomorrow or laid off next month, it would barely be a bleep on your radar screen because you have the valuable skills and certifications that other employers are looking for.

“The driving force of a career must come from the individual. Remember that jobs are owned by the company you own your career and owning your career means that you invest in that career.” – Earl Nightingale

Ann, you just reinforced my thinking about taking the NALA ACP Trial Practice exam (I already have ACP Criminal Litigation), as I really like to get more involved with trial work.

    Thank you

Mary, that sounds like a great plan!

I received my paralegal certification in 2011. I have been working in the legal field as support staff. I have been unable to get a paralegal job. What would you recommend I do to keep myself in good standing with my career and skills? What certifications should I begin with?

      Monica,
It sounds like you’re keeping up with your skills if you’re working in the legal field, even if it’s not with a paralegal title. Since it’s been a while since you received your certificate, I’d start with the basics of one of NALA or NFPA’s certifications.
