Show Summary

Right now there’s such low unemployment in the paralegal job market that recruiters are having a difficult time filling paralegal positions. Maybe it’s time to start paying paralegals more money?

Maybe add a signing bonus? Or a few days per week working from home?

Maybe it’s time recruiters are honest with law firm managers when they call and ask them to fill a position? Tell them that the salary is too low and they need to increase it if the firm wants to hire top talent.

There’s an employee shortage right now, and this is the time where the entire paralegal profession could see an overall increase in all paralegal salaries.

Your Actionable Strategy

In all of our podcast episodes, we try to give paralegals an actionable strategy that they can take away from the show because we know your time is valuable.

In this podcast episode, Ann Pearson discussed two actionable strategies:

Strategy #1: Ask yourself how much money do I want to be making one year from now and three years from now, then write it down.

Write down what you are currently making and then ask yourself how much do I want to be making?

Where do you want to be in your career three years from now? In order to get there do you need to obtain additional skills? Figure out what additional skills you need to add to your current skill set to get you to that number and go out there and get them! Use our Paralegal Career Development Plan, put check-ins on your calendar, and get those skills.

Strategy #2: When a recruiter contacts you about a position and ask you how much you are currently making – tell them what you’re currently making is irrelevant. Instead, the answer is – this is how much I want to make if I’m going to consider making a career move.
